Change and Essays

Uh…yeah. Just a quick message about recent goings on. First of all.. I just posted two essays about music that I completed for my degree. This may actually be illegal as I have a feeling that my Uni owns publishing rights to them. Also, it might flag up the fact that I actually did two essays on basically the same topic. The second one (which I posted first) was more of a continuation of the ideas of the original. I decided to post them on the basis of the earlier post about the music industry. The connections should be obvious. It’s worth noting the constant shifting of my attitude towards the politics of this stuff. Constant growth..etc etc.

Anyway, I had trouble with quotes coming up in black on a black background. This made them invisible and therefore useless. This meant I changed to the new Garland theme. I think its too bright for me, but I had complaints from two individuals that it was hard to read. Anyway..it means I can make my blog more purple and green. That makes me happy.

Anyway..I’m jsut making a space for your thoughts on those essays. I’d actually like to know what people enjoy me writing about, and what they find irritating and or dull. Don’t worry..I’l still write all kinds of things…I’d just like to know if there’s a direction I should thrust in.

Ahem.

But seriously folks..I’d like more ‘user input’ on this whole endeavour. Would you like to see more ‘academic’ stuff. More stuff on high brow or low brow topics…less rambles…more rambles…some brambles maybe? And what about the new theme…do you think it looks a bit stuffy? Or is that just me…and how much do you miss the header image (I miss it lots and I’ve only been switched for a coupla minutes).

Let me know…I hunger for your words and thoughts.

well. i’d like to see some brambles.
i like the colour scheme in principal - green and purple are two of my favourites. but, it’s a bit washed out. dunno what you can do about that though, maybe it will be a grower. shame you had to get rid of the header. can’t you find a customizable header theme without the black background? clearly you have poorly researched this. get to it crippens!

    Edit: Link Mercilessly Killed.

Mm. Research. To be honest…I really like the darker themes. Especially that old one. But the thing not working bothered me…now my blog is more purple…which feels more me-ish.
Also Three columns means that there’s more links to the different bits and the ‘disclaimer’ section is a bit more prominent.
There are a couple of niggles about it still thou.
Like you say…it is a bit washy…I think its just lack of definition between the segments.
I’ll do some browsing later…but so far this is the best compromise….ppppuuuurrrrppppllllleeee

Oh, and cheers knl. I’ll grab that when I get home

knowing you, I’d like to read stuff which is odd and oh so highbrow.. complicated things expressed really strangely and in ways not done by others… i dont think im expressing myself well.. but..

I second mrvaughan. Stay highbrow, stay rambly, and try and nail some of those odd creative cross-fertilizations of seemingly disparate ideas. You do them well.

And I’m not sure about the current scheme. It makes me feel relaxed and calm. The last one made me feel edgy and cool.

Aww…bless. Well I think I might put up a couple of my literary essays. The only problem is that they are written for academia…so whilst I try to be original and different…I still had to get marks and stuff.
Still…I might get in the habit of reading them and doing updates.
Also in essays I’m even more happy to argue views that aren’t necessarily my own. However…most of my conclusions are so inconclusive that that doesn’t matter.
And while you may not be expressing yourself well…you’re certainly being flattering…you little flirt you.
Oh…I’ve got you a christmas pressie for you…but I probably won’t see you until forever is over..so uh…yeah. Come visit and you get a prize (I assure you it’ll be a disapointment).
Still…what topics should I discuss…that I’d also like to know

    @Justin
Edgy and cool eh? You should be so lucky.
Only kidding of course. So what ideas do you want me to cross fertilise (I’m not exactly sure what you mean by that…but I assume its some reference to my ‘multi-disciplinary approach’).
I suddenly realise that this post was asking for compliments when in fact I wanted constructivity. But I’m playing games now…so I’ll post something less fishing like later

Oh…and KNL…the posts that are most relevant to what I said on your blog are the first three links in this post. Probably start with the third one…the other two are a bit weird as they are ‘academic’ essays.
    Apparently

    Controversy, controversy, controversy.

So…Basically this is a really interesting discussion. It seems that there are accusations that WordPress stole the thunder of Drupal by looking at their code and borrowing the ideas. This is legal as it was open source…but seems to be considered rude.
I find this incredibly interesting…especially as it’s all about ‘free’ software and similar discussions to what I’ve been posting the last two days about music.
I will post properly on something later. Maybe this, maybe not. Anyway, it’s an odd one.
And I’m not sure if I should change theme just for the sake of being polite to the Drupal bods.
Basically I don’t think I will as I think Matt is in the right….but then he was definitely a bit rude in his dealings.
Fascinating stuff for the geeky blogster in all of us.

I was under the assumption that I could delete the comment above (with the link) after you had downloaded it. Apparently I do not have that much control so I ask that you remove it once you’ve downloaded it. I’m not trying to condemn file sharing, I just want to make sure it stays in the hands of responsible people with good intensions. Also, post a comment on my blog with your thoughts towards the song in question. I’m curious.

Deleted that. I’m listening to it now but I’ll comment when the morning comes.
So far i like the throaty-ness..but I’d prefer his voice lower in the mix.
I have a thing about vocals made too prominent.
Might just be my EQ though.
    Damn I’m boring.
