Odd Porn Spam – Too Much Information

hair everywhere said 10 minutes ago:I haven’t been up to much these days. Such is life. I’ve just been letting everything happen without me these days, but I don’t care.

That was it. It cropped up in my ‘My comments’ page. It was underneath a conversation I’d had ages ago about gerrymandering, and proportional representation.

I fell for it. Seemed like a natural thing to say (although in fact it made no sense in context). Anyway, thought it was a weird handle so clicked on it to have ‘hairy amateur porn’ thrust in my face.

I can’t believe I fell for it.

Still…it’s such an odd sentence. The dissociative disillusionment common on blogs is used to make it seem like the spam bot is a real person. It made no sense but it seemed like something someone might say.

I guess my guard was down.

The world is very strange though. I mean…how much money do they get from people accidentally clicking these links. Surely if you want porn it’s easy enough to find. I mean…that’s what the internet’s for right?

It’s horrible enough in itself…but you don’t have to shove it in my face all the time.

I mean..it’s odd enough that not shaving has become a fetishised thing. But then…diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks yeah?

I mean…is there anything that a woman can do that isn’t in someway considered to be something done that makes them more appealing and sexually arousing for men.

It’s all bullshit.

I’m pretty sure you don’t get hairy backed men sites aimed at women.

Gah….

I haven’t really thought this post through by the way..this is a quick instintive reaction…just in case you’re wondering.

I think that it’s not necessarily about ‘objectifying’ women. I increasingly think it’s about alienating sexuality from people. Maybe that’s the same thing. I mean….these artificial constructs, complete with adverts and persuasive literature build up certain ideas about what is attractive. People stop thinking about what they find arousing or exciting and just get told what to do by the people who create the sexual images that they hope you’ll become addicted to.

Niche markets are created (I remember reading somewhere that while ‘vanilla’ porn gets more clicks…fetish porn gets more subscriptions) and exploited. More and more absurd imagery becomes necessary to achieve arousal.

I’m not saying people don’t genuinely find these things arousing in real life. I’m certainly not criticising fetish communities and people who do these things. As long as everyone is honestly consenting then pretty much anything is fair game in my book (pretty much).

But the ‘adult entertainment’ industry seems to thrive on disconnecting arousal and sexuality from people. Who needs real women when you can just buy porn over the counter and take matters into your own hands? (Sorry).

Then myths get perpetuated about female sexuality. As I mentioned previously, kids can get the wrong idea about consent and pleasure…growing up with warped views of sexual pleasure.

I’m a reformed porn user. I think I was addicted for quite some time. Not particularly heavy use…and never violent stuff….but I’ve stopped…I realised that it was screwing up the way I looked at things. Now Siggy seems to look at it more than I do…and it was partly conversations with her that finally confirmed in my mind that I had to stop for good.

I don’t know….I always felt like porn and sex were entirely different kinds of arousal. I think they are…but I think they inevitably bleed into each other…in the way that reality and fiction have a tendency of doing.

Hmm….this wasn’t going to be so confessional…but I guess I’m stuck with it now. Deleting is for correcting spelling and grammar…not censorship.

I was told recently that I should think before I speak. To be honest…I think I think too fast for that to work. If it doesn’t come out, then it dies. Things need to come out.

Sometimes the surprises are nice and sometimes they are bad.

Notice how I’m changing the subject?

Sorry….don’t know what else to say right now.

Sometimes spam can be brilliant. All those random words together, sounds like a different language. I read some spam poetry over the internet, I thought it was you know, entertaining. I read my own spam sometimes, Gosh that sounds kinky…
Anyways, they’ve all picked up on it, there are several spam-poetry sites.

Strange I don’t really read poetry and then I land up reading spam.

  3. I very rarely get along with poetry. When I like it though I do love it.
Saul Williams’ written words are amazing, but I think it’s the aural quality that makes me like them so much.
Perhaps I just like it more when it’s spoken.
My friend Jefferson writes wonderful avant garde poetry. It’s all that kind of deconstruction of language that’s attempting to make you lose the sense of meaning in the words by putting them together in strings that don’t make sense but instead make you examine the meaning closely enough to lose it.
I’d guess that’s the same thing the spam poetry is doing.
Strange that you can work so hard to make structures, and yet random robots can have the same effect.
Another friend of mine made me a compilation of his electronic music that was called ‘music for robots to fall in love to’. It really was.
    Lovely image.
Also reminds me of the ‘All is Full of Love’ video made by Chris Cunningham for Bjork’s song. It’s these two purely white robots apparently having sex. The imagery is strangely erotic and sensual…despite the fact that it’s still just robots.
I appear to have drifted off topic.

“I appear to have drifted off topic.”
Yeah we drifted off Porn can you believe that.
Anyways, I just find the randomness of the words put together. I was one of those lazy people that never bothered looking a dictionary, assumed the meaning and moved on with the book, and then used the same word in the completely wrong context. May be that’s why I like it so much.
As for porn, well, I’ve seen some of the fantasy porn from my bro’s collection (he was really embarassed and asked me to keep an ‘open mind’) but honestly I found some of it just tacky, nothing that made my blood boil. I found some stuff on my own that would pale in comparison, like Serpieri’s work, which is…
    No comment.

  5. vintagefan says:

Sorry I seem to have a handful of missing words I forgot to put in there.
That seems to happen pretty ften these days.

  6. Who’s Serpieri?
Anyway, I think most of the images aren’t in themselves appalling…it’s almost more about the marketing (and the possibility of exploitation…but that’s true of most modern industries.
Tacky is the most common word to apply.
I think it’s the tackiness and the commercial nature of it…the way it’s presented as commodity rather than sensual experience is where the actual problem lies. I guess this is me drawing a line between ‘erotica’ and porn. I mean….art is art and all that.
I hate it when things like that are industrialised….maybe that’s where my problems lie.

I think I had the same thing as you with words for ages. In school the other kids always used to think i was a walking dictionary because I had a wide vocabulary…but in fact I could never tell people what words meant…just use them in sentences that made sense. I think it’s still the case now.
Words as always remain joyful playthings.
    Indeed.

(And you’re missing some letters too)

I saw the bjork vedio, it’s was kinda creepy. There was something clinical and surgical about it. But the robot was pretty smoothly designed. I figured what she was trying to say, i think.
Google Serpieri and you’ll see what I mean. Make sure it’s not a public computer.
Brain cells is what I’m missing. I personally hold Epic Movie responsible, by far the biggest pile of crap I’ve encountered movie-wise.

  8. Hmm…I think I saw Serpieri on Eurotrash once. The kitsch camp and allegedly sexy show that shows us that Europeans do weird things (but rarely notes that British culture is just as weird…it’s just that we’re used to it). He seems to like big bottoms. I…like Queen…have no problem with that.
Not that impressed with the art though. I like Charles Vess, similar only less shiny and more …sensual maybe? Maybe.

As for the Bjork video, I think it’s wonderful…the clinicism (not a word) of it is part of the joy. It’s clearly rude, and strangely affectionate…but also totally unnatural.
Lovely. Chris Cunningham has made some great videos. He did Come to Daddy and Windowlicker for Aphex Twin (worth a look if you fancy a scaring) and Come on my Selector for Squarepusher. They’ll look crap on youtube though because the whole joy of them is the synchronisation of sound and music. It’s incredible what he does sometimes.
My personal favourites are Only You by Portishead (sexy sexy song) and Zulu Nation by Leftfield…if only for the final gag at the end.
Anyway, strictly speaking there are better video artists…but I have an affection for him.
    Bloody pretentious wanker am I.

I’m sorry you watched such an awful film. There’s a certain kind of terrible film that I like to glorify in (especially on sundays)…but I expect that’ll be one of the truly awful ones that just fill you with disgust and makes the whole world seem much cheaper for days afterward.
    Harsh.
    Be well.

  9. vintagefan says:

I found him through a link on an another artists page called Sandro Costelli, who does some rather creepy but nice work. Couldn’t stomach some of the rest though.

Yeah, i’m still trying to get that movie out of my head, I can’t believe there were kids watching it. I can’t believe they put all the good clips in the trailer and the all the shit in between. Cheating.

I used to play portishead in the studio and they asked me to turn off that noise.

  10. I think I’ve always enjoyed Portishead without ever going crazy for them. Sultry vocals and sultrier basslines is a good mix though. I like bass and voice…contrasts.

I’ve got a film to watch tonight. Renaissance: Paris2054 (or something). I bought a vinyl ‘highlights’ of the soundtrack because it had music by Plaid and Chris Clark (who I like). It sounded alright, but not exactly the danceable stuff I was looking for. I’m looking forward to see how the atmospherics work. It’s animated and the covers all black and white..so it might be black and white.

I love watching things that I have no idea what to expect…it mostly makes things loads better.
    Yay better.

  11. vintagefan says:

Fuck me, dude! I was watching that yesterday! No subtitles though.

I had to stop because I had work but what a coincidence.

  12. That’s pretty unlikely.
    Coincidence is a marvelous thing.
I’ll let you know how it is…for now I’m still stuck at work for almost an hour.
Wish I was in a writing mood but just too damn tired right now.
    Damn.
    Indeed.

  13. vintagefan says:

Snexpression, like ‘damnation’ or ‘curses’. But you know that.
    I do love to swear.

  14. It can be jolly good fun.
I’ve toned down loads lately…working with the public and all. Means I’m more likely to use phrases like bloody/jolly good…instead of fucking excellent.
Perhap’s it means I’m going to become less enthusiastic about of things.
    And yeah…I assumed you weren’t after a fuck…I mean..distance and all that.
I watched it and enjoyed it. Visually and aurally it was absolutely stunning. I was perhap’s a little disappointed with the plotting because it seemed a bit obvious. For some reason I assumed from the beginning that Avalon gave eternal life to people…so it was less of a surprise…but why did you need subtitles…as far as I could tell it was in English.
it was pretty easy to tell.
I still can’t get over a couple of the shots.
Such a great use of visuals.
I’m debating keeping it another night and watching it again.
