Life is Art – Dancing in Circles around the Universe

Posted on 28 April 2007. Filed under: Art, Circles, Meditation, Movement, Music, Perspective, Thoughts, Zen, life |

So, time to get spiritual on your ass.
Maybe.
A certain Robin, who’s been on my blog surfer for a while, though I can’t remember how I found the site, posted a very thoughtful prayer/meditation from World Prayers.
I like it, nice imagery and a wise (and very taoist) outlook.
I just don’t like the word ceremony. For me [...]

Dis Trope ‘Ere – Some thoughts on Screwed up Societies in SciFi

Posted on 27 April 2007. Filed under: Culture, Gaming, Health, Mind, PC Gaming, SciFi, Society, Thoughts |

So,
I’m anxiously anticipating the arrival of the sheer insanity that acts a a spiritual successor to one of my favourite games ever.  Bioshock is imminent, the videos are actually quite scary, and some of the ideas at play here might make it something like a horrific playground….including the brutal murder of little girls….apparently.
Now, I should [...]

A Peal Four Scents

Posted on 27 April 2007. Filed under: Music, Politics, Rant, Rude |

The bells, the bells.
Anyway.
Basically, I (being the subversive I am) use Pandora despite not being entirely based in America (I do however have the ability to find out zip codes), and so I’ve been informed of some apparently ludicrous laws being pushed through to make internet radio fun non-viable and rubbish. I’m here to [...]

Sorry I haven’t updated for ages, I’ll do something exciting soon, promise.
Anyway, I have been adding new stuff to the site, thanks to the lovely people at wordpress. First up, above and to the write is the new ‘poke the beast’ function, which will send me an e-mail (if you fill it in…or something). So [...]

Great Expectations -What You Want, What You Need

Posted on 24 April 2007. Filed under: Emotions, Friends, Insecurities, Interaction, People, Ramble, Relationships, Security, Thoughts, life |

Some things circling my head right now.
A lack of parity somewhere. Some personal stuff I can’t spew out of respect for certain people’s privacy, and some broader stuff that came out of a discussion with Fanny last night.
In human relationships it strikes me that people rarely define what they expect from each other.
It’s taken for [...]

Of A Certain Type – A Transition from Stereo to Omnidirectional

Posted on 23 April 2007. Filed under: Glamour, Liberation, Open Minded, Stereotypes, Tradition, Transgender, gender |

So, I realise this may offend some, and I apologise if it sounds like I’m criticising communities of which I’m not a part…but I just want to raise some things that I find baffling about various movements and communities.
Remember that this blog is often for me to work out stuff and learn, rather than for [...]

The Terrification of Expectation

Posted on 23 April 2007. Filed under: Uncategorized |

I’ve just read the most flattering review of this blog I’ve ever had.
I’m pretty much speechless to be honest. I don’t think I deserve the praise, especially from someone who seems to be capable of praising me in a more eloquent way than I feel that I’ve ever written here. I can’t think of anything [...]

Mything the Point – Through the Eyes of a Child

Posted on 21 April 2007. Filed under: Childhood, Faith, Learning, Magic, Myth, Perspective, Processes, Reality, Science, Thoughts, life |

Curtis has a great article over here. I’ve already posted an essay I did on Myth and History, although it doesn’t make much sense and will probably ruin a great book for you if you read it. Still…I linked it just then.
Anyway, Curtis discusses the way we learn from myth, how myth is universal, and [...]

Ideal Role Exhibition – A Message for Men?

Posted on 19 April 2007. Filed under: Changing the World, Dream, Equality, Feminism, Gender Identity, Humanity, People, Society, Thoughts, gender |

So, I was thinking.
As a man, I exist in the dominant societal role. I am in a position of strength, and the way society expects me to act is dominant, controlling, powerful and strong.
Basically, it means that the way I’m supposed to act is full of mostly positive attributes.
If I choose that I want to [...]

Command and Conquer – Blah blah blah

Posted on 18 April 2007. Filed under: Gaming, Gender in Video Games, PC Games |

So, I’m going to play the new C’n’C game because we’ve got it at work. I wasn’t impressed with Tiberian Sun, but I enjoyed RA2.
Having said that…RA2 had the dubious pleasure of managing to offend me at the very last minute. I was willing to over look (only just) the fetish clad Soviet lady [...]

Communication has been a struggle all day

Posted on 17 April 2007. Filed under: Uncategorized |

And not just because I’m tired.
I found out from Whabbit’s post…couldn’t sleep much thinking about it.
Woke up this morning and did some reading. It was when I saw a note telling the families of students where to go to find out about where they were that I started crying.
It’s been a long day…but it’s so [...]

My Appearance could eat your Constitution for Breakfast – Some thoughts on Gaming and Gender

Posted on 16 April 2007. Filed under: Equality, Gaming, Geekery, Gender Identity, Gender Roles, Gender in Video Games, Identity, Mild Mania, Misogyny, Nonsense, PC Games, PCRPG, RPG, Ramble, Stereotypes, gender |

I’ve been reading a lot this evening.  A lot of stuff about pop culture, gaming and stereotyping, little bits on political correctness and all that jazz.
It’s been interesting. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to work out what I wanted to talk about. I’ve got a lot of ideas at the moment, but I [...]

The Right Responsibilities – Open your Mind and Change the World

Posted on 14 April 2007. Filed under: Blogging, Change, Confused, Culture, Feminism, Free Speech, Mild Mania, Mind, Open, Politics, Ramble, Revolution, Rights, Self, World |

So,
People have been talking a lot about freedom of speech and rights and hate and all this stuff.
It gets me thinking.
You see, there’s always been that old thing about rights and responsibilities. You only get one if you obey the others. It’s the basis of the prison system (for example). If you transgress laws then [...]

Forever the End of the World

Posted on 14 April 2007. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Just a little musical note.
You read certain things in music reviews and you just take them for granted. Then occasionally you realise that they are spot on.
I always read about the Super Furry Animals having Beach boys style harmonies (one of the terms bandied around by music reviewers more than any other…possibly).
Anyway, Forever by the [...]

Crushed beneath the Think Tanks

Phantomias has decided to goad me.
I’ve already turned my nose up at this, and now he decides to nominate me.
He’s asking for trouble…and I’m slightly intoxicated when I shouldn’t be.
Trouble is a foot.
Well….my feet are trouble anyway…malodorous whiffy beacons of sandalled flesh.
What is it with feet? They are one of the more intricate parts of [...]

Alabaster Crippens doesn't entirely believe in objective truth, therefore he can neither confirm or deny the accuracy of any statement, image or impression caused by, or displayed on, these pages of the so called 'internet'. He does however not want to get sued, even if the lawyers, legal system, and the concept of jurisprudence doesn't exist. Therefore if you believe the nonsense posted on here you do so entirely at your own risk. In other words: Don't sue me 'cause I might not mean it. Basically, anything you hear from anyone is unreliable, so if you want the 'truth' you need the perspectives of as many people as you can get..ideally people who are trustworthy and close to the particular 'truth' you wish to inspect. If you start trusting idiots with silly (and obviously made up) names then you're developing some kind of problem. Check your sources, examine their own politcal (or other) motivation, remember that anything people say is opinion unless you are certain that they speak the 'truth'. Even your own eyes can lie. Trust me on that one. Or don't..it doesn't bother me. Finally, everything written here is, to the best of my knowledge written by me and I reserve my right to be recognised as the author of these works. Any input from other sources should be clearly shown, if you note a mistake or anything..tell me..I'll try and sort out the problem. Please ask me if you want to use anything for commercial reasons...I probably won't mind but I need to know I'm not supporting anything I don't want to support. This is an attempt at a legal notice written without legal knowledge. Just follow the principles, I think most of you get what I mean, even if it won't stand up in a court of law. Just be polite you know...like in the good ole days.
