So,
Massive festive hangover. Unsurprisingly. Bottle of wine from my manager, several ales, including the infamous Imperial Stout. Arriving home to a load of friends, King of the Hill in the small hours of the morning, and the knowledge that right now, as I type, two of my friends are sleeping together in someone elses bed, and I have no doubt that they are both nocturnally territorial. I’m hoping that they’re cuddling by now.
Anyway,
The point is not that. The point is how cheerful I am. The hangover is brutal, currently performing a brutal pincer movement on me, flanking me via my skull and my belly, in a simultaneous co-ordinated churning motion.
It’s not nice.
But I’m well, well jolly. I went downstairs to make tea and ended up dancing. I’m singing along, I sound stupid (because my throat is fucked and I can’t sing).
But I just can’t help the jolliness.
I’m doing the Christmas shopping today, which will be a chore, but I’m hoping to maintain a spring in my step. Lovely friends and joyfulness helps.
Anyway, here’s some festive (not remotely) cheer for you, in the form of three songs that I sung loudly along to this morning. With a variety of visual accompaniments, I haven’t checked the quality of any of these, so they may be dodgy, be forewarned. Anyway, Pursuit of Happiness by the Divine Comedy is the happiest song in the world to sing. I’m going to do it again in a minute. The live version may be worse (and isn’t even performed by the Divine Comedy, I only just noticed), so anyone who e-mails me (try poke the beast) shall receive tidings of happiness.
Here goes:
Merry Solstice (more on that tomorrow, hopefully, as that’s when the actual solstice is see).
